Barrett began vocational ministry in 1997 and has been a pastor on multiple church staffs since that time. He joined the Mt. Carmel church staff in July of 2011 as the Minister to Children, Youth, Young Adults and Families and became Pastor on January 11, 2015. His wife, Kerry, is a local teacher, and they have two daughters, Chloe and Lola, as well as a son, Reef. Barrett completed his M.Div. degree at Campbell Divinity School, and he also holds an MAT from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Prior to his post graduate degrees he completed a BA in Religious Studies from St. Andrews Presbyterian College. He loves: running with his wife, playing with his kids, lounging on the beach, swinging a golf club, and cheering for the Tar Heels.
Jill joined the Mount Carmel staff in May 2015 as the Minister to Students. She graduated from Campbell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry. She’s had a variety of service and ministry experiences to prepare her. Jill has lead groups to Caswell, put together numerous outreach projects, been a part of local missions such as Back-Pack-Buddies, helped kick-off and lead several small groups with the churches she has served in, and so much more! Outside of church she enjoys sewing, going to the beach, hanging out with family and friends, and eating Fro-Yo. Jill is an energetic relationship builder who desires to see young people grow in and connect with the body of Christ.
We’re excited that Jane Cutchin is our new director of music ministries. Jane has been a member of the choir for many years and directed it previously. She has great music skills and great heart for leading in worship through music. Her middle school bands were consistently ranked high (superior).
Jane has recently retired as Director of Instrumental Music at Phillips Middle School in Chapel Hill. She has worked with and inspired children for in that role for nearly 30 years. On many occasions, Jane has recruited those youth to perform in cantatas at Mt. Carmel. In addition, Jane is very experienced with adult, youth & children’s vocal groups, having been a pianist and Music Director at Mt. Carmel several times in the past.
Jane received a B.A. cum laude in Music Education from NC Wesleyan College where she attended on a full scholarship, all while holding the position of Music Director at her home church.
Jane is married to Mason and they have two grown sons, Adam and Andrew.
Bekah Worley has joined our staff at Mount Carmel. She is a recent graduate with Master’s of Divinity from the Duke Divinity School. She did her undergraduate work in Bible and Religion at Montreat college. Bekah grew up in Raleigh and has done a variety of church-work with different ages in different locations. She speaks Spanish and loves travel, photography, ceramics, and anything on a mountain, she says. She also played soccer at Montreat College. We’re excited to have Bekah ministering with us!!
Karen has been working for Mount Carmel since 2005. Growing up in Chapel Hill she has fond memories of attending Mount Carmel as a child with her parents and sister. Karen lives in Efland with her husband, Mike and two cats, Clyde and Hannah. She enjoys spending time with her two daughters and two granddaughters.
Matti grew up a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C. where she was very involved as a leader in her youth group and a member of the praise and worship team. She has a passion for working with youth and loves using her story to share the gospel and build relationships with middle and high schoolers.
Matti is a student at the University of North Carolina, majoring in sports broadcasting. She works in UNC’s athletic communications department, doing work for the football, basketball, and men’s tennis teams. During her summers, Matti spends eight weeks on staff with a summer camp, going across the state to do mission work. In her spare time, Matti loves to go to Carolina sporting events and spend time with her family.
Please meet and welcome our children’s intern. Grace is a student at UNC majoring in Exercise and Sports Science (pre-Physical Therapy). She grew up in Raleigh, where she attended Sanderson High School and Forest Hills Baptist Church. She played tennis and soccer in high school, developed and after school program at an elementary school, and was very active on the Youth Council and worship team at FHBC. She has worked several summers at New Life Camp in Raleigh.
At UNC, Grace is also a member of the Phi Beta Chi, Christian sorority, and a leader in Carolina Fever the student spirit organization.
We look forward to the having her using her energy and ministry skills at Mount Carmel with our children and pre-schoolers.
